Jack Hillman • Profile
Jack Hillman has been working as a Designer/Sculptor for over forty years. With experiences gained as an industrial designer, graphic designer, environment designer and as a university design professor, he chose in 2002 to begin full time focus on creating his sculptures. In his earlier career over one-hundred fifty businesses, from the small entrepreneurial start up to the established Fortune 500, benefited from his collaborations. Thousands of young minds gained expanded knowledge and went on to establish successful careers from Hillman and his university colleagues’ sharing of enthusiasms during their schooling.
Hillman has lived in many influential, beautiful and diverse areas of the country and is now residing in Western Michigan near the lakeshore. Inspiration continues to be drawn from his lifelong fascination with identifying and observing visible and invisible patterns, giving form to those “ah-ha” moments. Hillman’s sculptures are created to share those moments.
Jack Hillman• Statement
I have always enjoyed watching --- looking at patterns that occur naturally. With my sculptures I seek to give visible form to an observation, a thought, an idea or a delight. With lines of metal I create simple kinetic sculptures suspended in space; giving opportunity for pause, for personal inquiry and inspiration, a presence for reflection by others for what I see. To join our minds for a moment as you also relax into discovery of what has drawn me close as I sculpt these interactive forms.
To share a smile
|
My visual language is formed into sculptures thru minimalist lyrical softly kinetic rods of metal. They have been described as “clean lined contemporary precision touched with joy and fascination”. The pieces require thoughtful planning and forming to give them their unique balance and turning and swaying movement. The greatest enjoyment occurs when one quietly relaxes in contemplation during times of gentle breeze. My wish is to share my fascinations with others --- to bring the invisible into visible and to smile with a knowing connection.
